PhD Scholarship opportunities – HRB Neonatal Encephalopathy PhD Training Network (NEPTuNE)

 

CRDI is part of a successful application to the HRB Collaborative Doctoral Awards in Patient-Focused Research. The new structured PhD programme - HRB Neonatal Encephalopathy PhD Training Network (NEPTuNE) - is now inviting applications for PhD Scholarships, and recruiting a Programme Manager.

HRB NEPTuNE is led by Professor Eleanor Molloy (Consultant Neonatologist, Chair and Professor of Paediatrics, TCD and Tallaght Hospital) and co-lead Professor Geraldine Boylan (Professor of Neonatal Physiology and Director of the INFANT Research Centre, UCC).
 

 

Applications are open for five PhD Scholarships (application deadline has been extended to 27 June, 17:00 (GMT):

1.     Develop a core outcome set for use in clinical trials, and other studies, for the prevention and the treatment of hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy – NUI Galway
2.     CRADLE: Circadian Rhythm Alterations anD outcome in neonatal Encephalopathy – TCD
3.     PANDA: Psychological And Neurodevelopmental assessment of Neonatal Encephalopathy – TCD
4.     Identify characteristic features or ‘biomarkers’ of encephalopathy in newborn infants using EEG – UCC
5.     NEON: Investigate the functional brain changes in neonatal encephalopathy (NE) infants and the associated behavioural and cognitive consequences – TCD

HRB NEPTuNE will train PhD students in multidisciplinary research projects in premier research centres in Trinity College Dublin, University College Cork and NUI Galway. Students will have a holistic overview involving the entire translational research paradigm from basic science research, translational clinical research, clinical trials to epidemiology and population health, while getting in depth expertise in their chosen areas. The new HRB NEPTuNE trainees will start in October 2018.

NEPTuNE will study the best methods to care for babies and their families and create detailed clinical guidelines. We are training future leaders in research and innovation.
